Anthropologie
Global lifestyle and apparel brand · 256+ locations · US, Canada, Europe, Middle East
Anthropologie's stores read like one-off emporiums, but the brand is one of three banners inside Nasdaq-listed Urban Outfitters, Inc. Richard Hayne created it in 1992, still runs the parent as chairman and CEO, and holds 20% of the stock.

View the family treeThe Big Picture
Anthropologie is unusual among chains this size in that its founder is still its parent company's chief executive and single largest shareholder. That closeness has not reached the supply chain: URBN publishes no factory list and no emissions figures, and is not among the 305 signatories to the binding garment-safety accord adopted after Rana Plaza. Two wage-and-hour actions covering hourly store staff are pending, and the brand answers to URBN's public shareholders.
