Café Integral
Nicaraguan coffee roaster and café · 1 location · NYC: Nolita
A small Nolita coffee bar that is really an import business, buying green coffee at origin and roasting it in Brooklyn. Founder César Vega still owns it, and the shop is what remains of a company that listed cafés in three cities in 2022.
The Big Picture
Café Integral has taken no outside capital, and César Vega, who founded it in 2012, still owns it. Its environmental claims rest largely on its own word: the FAQ says many of its lots are Rainforest Alliance certified and would be marked as such, and the phrase appears nowhere else on its site, including on any coffee it sells. There is little public record on pay for a business this small, so what the company is comes down almost entirely to one owner.
