Descendant of Thieves
NYC menswear label · 2+ locations · NYC: Greenwich Village, Nolita
Slim-cut shirting with hidden linings and a pseudonymous designer, sold from two small NYC storefronts. Behind the mythology the structure is plain: two owners, no outside capital, and 12 in-house tailors making about 200 pieces per style.
The Big Picture
Matteo Maniatty co-founded Descendant of Thieves in 2009 and owns it with Suwana Perry, with no outside investor, fund or parent company on its record. Everything is cut in a 12-tailor workshop in runs of roughly 200 pieces, but the brand names no fabric suppliers, publishes no country of manufacture and carries no environmental or supply-chain certification. It is small enough that little public labor or environmental record exists in either direction; the two owners answer for the whole business themselves.
