Little Pie Company

Pie bakery · 1 location · Manhattan: Hell's Kitchen

A Hell's Kitchen pie counter with no investors and no franchises, run by the founder who started it in his apartment upstairs. It has contracted rather than grown, back to the single storefront after years with more than one shop.

Founder-run

The Big Picture

Genuinely Independent

Arnold Wilkerson has owned and run Little Pie Company since he started baking pies in his Manhattan Plaza apartment in 1983, with no outside investor at any point and no franchising. As a single storefront with a small staff, it has little public labor or environmental record in either direction, and its sustainability claims — better ovens, LED lighting, local ingredients — are self-reported and unverified. It answers to Wilkerson and to the 1,689-unit residential complex, long home to performing artists, that is its landlord.
