Maru Coffee is still owned and run by the two baristas who opened its first Los Feliz shop in 2016, with no outside investors anywhere in its California or New York filings even as it expands to a second coast nine years later. Pay beats the national barista average, and neither founder has stepped back for a professional CEO. As a four-location operation with no published sustainability program, it answers mostly to Joonmo Kim and Jacob Park.
