Tal Bagels

Tal Bagels is an independent, owner-run bagel chain — Ami Halon has personally owned and operated all four of its Manhattan locations for at least two decades, with no outside investors found. That same hands-on ownership is also the subject of its labor record: employees have filed at least five federal wage-and-hour lawsuits against his stores since 2009, and three of his operating companies used a 2019 bankruptcy filing to shield Halon personally from liability in the most recent one. No comparable litigation has surfaced since 2019, but Halon — not an outside investor — is who answers for both the stable ownership story and the wage disputes behind it.
