VEJA

French sneaker brand · 21+ locations · Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, Copenhagen, New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, São Paulo, Singapore

VEJA sneakers turn up on every other sidewalk, which usually means a conglomerate is behind the brand. Instead the two friends who started it still own and run it, with no investor money at all behind roughly €250 million in annual sales.

Founder-run

The Big Picture

Genuinely Independent

VEJA has taken no outside investment in more than twenty years, and French and UK filings name its two founders as the only people holding control. It pays Amazonian rubber tappers roughly five times the market rate and holds Fair Trade USA certification at two Brazilian factories covering three-quarters of production, though it never names those factories publicly. Nobody but Kopp and Morillion has a claim on the decisions.
