Little Ruby's

Australian all-day restaurant · 6+ locations · NYC, Dallas

An Australian all-day café that looks like a neighborhood independent, and on ownership it is one: no outside investors, and its founder still in the business. The labor record complicates that — its New York entities settled a suit over minimum wage and tips in 2020.

The Big Picture

Mixed Picture

Little Ruby's has taken no outside capital since it opened on Mulberry Street in 2002, and its founder and managing partners still run it through the hospitality group they built around it. Its New York operating companies settled a Fair Labor Standards Act suit alleging unpaid minimum wage and misappropriated tips, which a Southern District judge approved as fair and reasonable in September 2020; a separate employment discrimination case filed in June 2025 is still active, with no finding of liability. Accountability runs to those partners, not to an investor.
