Movement Climbing
Climbing gym chain · 32+ locations · CA, CO, IL, MD, NY, OR, PA, TX, VA
Movement is the largest US climbing chain, assembled by a PE firm from three independent brands. Co-founder Anne-Worley Moelter returned as CEO in 2024. Separately, the union representing 500+ workers has filed federal charges alleging nationwide bad-faith bargaining.
The Big Picture
Movement was assembled by PE firm Tengram Capital through acquisitions of Earth Treks, Planet Granite, and the original Movement Climbing, and more than 500 workers at 10 of its gyms have unionized with Workers United. In May 2026 the union filed federal charges alleging nationwide surface bargaining, unilateral working-condition changes in New York, and interrogation of workers in Maryland — all unresolved, with the union asking members to freeze memberships in support. Co-founder Anne-Worley Moelter returned as the company's CEO in September 2024, giving founder-level leadership real authority again. PE ownership and the unresolved labor dispute remain the defining facts here regardless.
